Thank You for Wanting to Lend a Helping Paw!
Almost Home’s volunteers are a vital part of our organization and help us in a variety of ways. Volunteers help with everything from walking dogs to cleaning to planning events. Our volunteers allow us to get more accomplished and give our pets a better quality of life while they are our guests. What seems like only a few hours each week to you will make a giant difference in the life of a homeless pet. Will you help us help them?
In what ways can you help?
If you are available between the hours of 8:30 and 12:30, this is a great opportunity. Kennel Assistants are a vital part of our organization 365 days a year and allow us to complete more cleaning projects than just basic daily tasks.
Dog Playing for Life
Each day our adoptable dogs take part in play groups thanks to the Dogs Playing for Life program and you can help them have the time of their lives! Our DPFL volunteers assist AHHS staff with supervising play groups, moving dogs back and forth to the play yard and can eventually advance to leading groups. Love dogs? This could be the opportunity for you.
Enrichment is a part of our dog’s daily protocols and you can help us make sure that it is completed. Enrichment volunteers help us prepare enrichments like treat cups and kongs, distribute them to our resident canines and also assist visitors to our dog kennels.
Almost Home makes sure every dog is walked at least two times per day and we need your help to make this happen. Between the hours of 8:30 and 10:30 and 2:00 unto 4:00 each day all of our dogs need a walk. If you love dogs and have free time that matches up with our needs, this could be your chance to make a shelter dog’s day.
Our cat enrichment volunteers help us keep our cats happy and active while they are our guests at AHHS. This group of volunteers helps distribute daily cat enrichments (i.e. scratchers, cat nip toys), create new enrichment items and give the cats daily exercise. If you’re a feline fan, this is a great way to give back to our homeless cats.
Want to help people and animals? During our business late afternoon hours and on Saturday, Almost Home is in need of greeters. You will be assisting visitors with signing in, directing them to the appropriate locations in the shelter and occasionally helping staff with answering phones and directing other guests.
Special Event Volunteer
Almost Home has many different events throughout the year. We often need additional help at off-site adoption events, fundraisers, and awareness events. Special event volunteers are used on an as needed basis.
