Volunteer
Thank You for Wanting to Lend a Helping Paw!
Almost Home’s volunteers are a vital part of our organization and help us in a variety of ways. Volunteers help with everything from walking the dogs to planning events. Whatever your talents or interests, we are sure to have a volunteer position that is a good fit!
School Projects and/or Community Service (not court ordered)
If you are required to complete community service hours for a class or school project, please contact Taylor Vowels at (765) 474-5222 ext. 302 or taylor@almosthomehumane.org.
Children under 17 years of age are welcome to volunteer when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Our family volunteers provide children with the opportunity to learn about Almost Home and provides our pets with the opportunity to interact with various ages of volunteers. All youth volunteers must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the building.
Volunteer orientations are held every Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Orientation is your
opportunity to learn more about Almost Home, what we do, why we do it, and how you can help. After orientation you will attend one or more trainings depending on the volunteer position that interests you most. Prior to orientation all volunteers must complete an AHHS Volunteer Application
Kennel Assistant—Assist AHHS staff with preparing the shelter for visitors. If you are available between the hours of 8:30 and 12:30, this is a great opportunity. Kennel Assistants are a vital part of our organization and allow us to complete more cleaning projects than just basic daily tasks.
Socializer—Do you have free time during the afternoon hours? Socializers help us walk our adoptable dogs, socialize puppies, and interact with our adoptable cats. As a socializing volunteer you have the opportunity to help us learn more about our adoptable pets’ personalities and give them plenty of TLC.
Special Event Volunteer—Almost Home has many different events throughout the year. We often need additional help at off-site adoption events, fundraisers, and awareness events. Special event volunteers are used on an as needed basis.
Photographers/Petfinder—AHHS has a small group of volunteers who work together to keep our photos up to date and our Petfinder site current. Photography and Petfinder is open to volunteers who have completed at least 25 hours of service.
Other Opportunities—Often other opportunities arrive to assist us with projects and short-term needs.
For more information about volunteering and how you can help the homeless pets of AHHS contact Stacy, (765) 474-5222 ext. 301 or stacyahhs@gmail.com.
